hiking the AT

big post today people, normally I would rather show the best of the best shots from a personal shoot like a small portfolio, but this camping trip was just so awesome, challenging and fun that I wanted to share with the other hikers and all readers what myself and four other friends did and to make you feel like you were all there. The back story quick is we been wanting to hike a challenging portion of the Appalachian trail, just about 30 miles was our goal. The group took off work, skipped classes and got our asses out there for a weekend trip, hike in friday afternoon and night, camp, 11 miles saturday, 11 miles sunday, destination High Point, the highest point in New Jersey. Not only was the hike challenging but so was getting photo opportunities, we made it happen and I hope tim, jeff, dan and liz got as much out of this as I did. good times! thanks everyone! Here are the photos I came out with.

hiked in to our camp just as the sun dropped below the horizon

I jumped in the shot, jeff didn't meet up till later haha hes crazy

an amazing clear night

while everyone was passed out, tim and I got an early rise and got first peak at sunrise.

tim getting warm while everyone sleeps

got a good start

dan had a water filter, fresh spring water, better than your faucet

we enjoyed our resting spots, taking a breather

if dan didn't have that filter, we'd all have beaver fever

after the filling up on water we hauled ass as close as we could to sunrise mtn

this campsite was awesome tucked away and we had lots of animal activity which got a little crazy, but thats what this was all about.

woke up at 530 and got up to sunrise mountain, and it was worth it, jeff and tim soaking it in at the pavilion.

had to put this in

thanks sunrise mountain

loves his tea

got started but lovin' the views

we barely stopped, once we really got going we kicked ass, high point monument in sight

final ascent

nice looking monument

check out the views!

droid incredible hooks it up

group shot from left to right..jeff,tim,myself,liz and dan

and an excellent finish to our trip!

enjoy!

Alex Andrews in Pittsburgh

My first trip of my season last year was to pittsburgh,pa.. I took a few hour bus ride into the city to meet up with a couple kids coming in from SLC because pitt had an uncharacteristic amount of snow. Our crew was brandon hammid, sean black and alex andrews along with matt roberge filming. One of the sickest crews I've shot with and I'm thankful I was invited to come along. We found a few spots, including a rail lit with stadium lights, a perfect night spot without using a generator. The guys coming out of salt lake have super creative ideas and we got a bunch of things going but they were really feeling this gap over fence to down rail...and so was I. These kids killed it, I threw on the fisheye, some colored gels on the flash to liven it up a bit and had Alex give me a few tries without matt in there with his fisheye too, which is sick, I love when riders are willing to throw down without a filmer getting a shot, also as a note, matt roberge is one of the sickest rail filmers and a good friend of mine, which is nice because hes willing to get out of the way sometimes, plus he'll critique the hell outa photos and I respect his knowledgeable opinions. Anyways, this is about the riders, they killed it,Alex got some shots with a frontblunt getting over the fence getting ready for touchdown on the rail, i like it because the colors and his helmet team bern unlimited got interested in this shot for online and catalog space and now I can post it up on here. Thanks for working hard everyone! enjoy!

two part blog

Alright well I'll start with the storm we had the other day. We had a crazy lightning storm the other day, this summer has been very dry here, so any type of storm was welcomed. Eating at the table I opened up the blind, Melissa and I were entertained by the amount of lightning. I never once shot lightning photos, never even tried so hey why not shoot from inside outa the rain. Not aiming for anything stunning, just some practice shots for the blog maybe and see what works. threw the fisheye on, put the camera in a tomato filled tupperware for no camera shake and ate our dinner as I fired off long exposures, I think we got lucky and captured two good ones I like.

Now on to the 2nd half...Melissa is taking a photo class in college and its sweet for me too, she needs to go out and take photos so it helps me get off my butt and get out there too. We went to the abandoned boiler works in town, where theres a lot of good stuff for her to shoot for her project. I tagged along and just shot whatever with my 30d and 50mm 1.8. The place is huge, and run down but a lot of fun. At one end there was a bunch of light coming through the roof, melissa was framed nice and I got some shots of her that I really like. I really really need to work on shooting with people and shooting lifeys and portraits, as you may know my website is lacking pretty hard in that department. I love it but I never get any shots that are really what I'm looking for. but these shots, I feel, are at least a step in the right direction. Always always always room for improvement but I'm learning. thanks for being a good sport and modeling for me Melissa!

gotta love that smile!

I'm a lucky guy huh!

now just some extras I
took walking around

told you the place was big

then this happened, my 50mm slinged over my shoulder got caught on a chain I was crouched to get under and it ripped the front glass off. did some cursing, surgery and shes back together...so far so good..

enjoy! thanks for checkin it out
